1940’s original Tolix dining chair – Model A. The first production of the model A was in the 1930’s. This is a very early example from the late nineteen forties, the main difference being the first production featured a steel rod loop central back panel where this chair has sheet metal. The outer back steel rod is the slightly later more rounded shape and the legs are kicked out and feature the ribbed detail. The chair is in its original green paint and features the original rubber feet inserts. Tolix is one of our all time favourite companies. In 1907 Frenchman Xavier Pauchard discovered that he could protect sheet metal from rusting by dipping it in molten zinc (galvanisation) and a few years later he set up his factory producing steel furniture. Tolix was the creator and founder of perhaps the most iconic cafe chair of all time, the Tolix model A, designed in 1934 and sadly now copied worldwide. Tolix used their metal working skill to also produce exquisitely designed but practical cafe/dining tables to partner their chairs. Seat Height 44cm
