Vintage Design
Important and rare pair of wingback armchairs designed by Eva Koppel in 1947 and manufactured at Slagelse Møbelværk, Denmark. Made from dark stained beech and upholstered in White “Savak” Wool. Eva Koppel was, along with Nanna Ditzel, one of the most prominent female designers in the Danish Modern movement in the mid 20th century. In the late 1930s she studied under Alvar Aalto and together with her husband Niels Koppel she was responsible for several famous buildings in Copenhagen. In 1955, Eva Koppel was awarded the Eckersberg Medal. From 1951 to 1973, she was vice-chairman of the board for the Design School for Women (“Tegne- og Kunstindustriskolen for Kvinder”), and in 1972 she became a member of the Academy.
