American Federal Philadelphia cast brass faceted acorn top large andirons. The motif of faceting is repeated in the stepped faceted column as well as on the acorns. The columns rest on cabriole legs with spurred knees and ball and claw feet. As one would expect from this period the andirons are seamed. The distal concave swoop leads to substantial belted ball top log stops. The log holders are wrought iron and have two legs as well as the leg under the log stop so large logs can be burned without damaging the log holders. These superb quality 25 1/2 inch high andirons are suitable for a large or important fireplace. Circa 1790.
